October is right around the corner, a time when most adults look forward to cooler temps and falling leaves and kids are counting down the days to Halloween.

Whether you’re looking for a date-night atmosphere or just a fun night out with friends, we’ve rounded up a list of the top places for adults to go in Champaign-Urbana and beyond in October.

Halloween for Grownups: If you’re a fan of haunted houses, costumed creeps, and All Things Scary in the sprit of Halloween, check out our listing of Haunted Houses and other ways to Get Scared. It’s full of scary fun things to do for grownups! You definitely want to leave the little kiddies at home for these events (unless you want them in your bed every night until Christmas!)

Music at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts: From a celebration of the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra’s 60th birthday to the Four Italian Tenors to a Vivaldi’s Four Seasons like you’ve never heard it before, you can’t go wrong with a musical night out at Krannert.

Live Theatre at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts: From modern playwrights (August Wilson’s Gem of the Ocean plays multiple nights) to the great bard himself (Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus), October means a plethora of live theatre at Krannert Center.

Entertainment galore at the State Farm Center: There are no shortage of choices in October: Miranda Lambert on Oct. 10; Jim Gaffigan on Oct. 17; Young the Giant on Oct. 24; the Jersey Boys Musical on Oct. 25. 

Music at the Virginia Theatre: In addition to the list of classic movies shown at the Virginia, some legendary musical acts will appear. Check out Chicago or Kansas; if those are too old school for you, don’t miss Straight No Chaser on Oct. 28 – a capella like you’ve never seen it before.

Fall Festivals: Yes, there are many kid-friendly, fall festivals in the Champaign-Urbana area (just look at our guide!) but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy yourself at one sans children.

CU Oktoberfest: Speaking of fall festivals, CU Oktoberfest is one you don’t want to miss. Sausages! Beer! Polka! Pretzels! Benefits the Developmental Services Center.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show: The low-budget cult classic is joined with a live shadow cast performance at the Art Theater for three dates in October. Tip: Get your tickets as soon as they go on sale, as a sellout is a very real possibility.

CU Jazz Festival, Oct. 3-5: If you love jazz, you won’t want to miss the fifth anniversary edition of CU Jazz Festival. While some of the festival is kid-friendly, there’s something about jazz that makes us feel all grown up.

The Tuscola Odd Market:If you like unique art, jewelry, and other “stuff,” check out this unique little market on Saturday, Oct. 12. Grab the girlfriends for a fun day out in Tuscola and get a great jump start on your holiday shopping, or treat yourself.
